Therapy101 / Process

About this site

Scope

This site is general education about how therapy works as a process over time: beginnings, the middle of the work, endings and some frameworks for thinking about change. It is written for learners and is part of the wider Therapy101 family.

The entries are a selection, not a complete account of the therapy process.

What this site does not do

It is not a guide to any individual's therapy. It does not diagnose, recommend a treatment, match people with therapists, compare how well approaches work or offer crisis support. Practitioners, services and settings differ, and what an entry describes may not match what you or anyone else experiences.

Examples labelled "constructed for learning" are invented to illustrate an idea and are not real cases. If you are in distress, contact a health professional or your local emergency or crisis service.

UK and US differences

Professional rules, regulation and legal limits on confidentiality differ between the UK and the US, and within the US between states. An entry states a difference only where a source supports it. Where one is needed and not yet found, the entry says so.

Review status

This is an unpublished draft. Entries have not yet been reviewed by a qualified subject specialist. Each page says so in its review note.

How sources are checked

A source carries a checked date only after it has been opened or its bibliographic record confirmed. Each source says what it supports, and where only the bibliographic record was confirmed and the full text was not read, it says that too.

Sources that could not be checked are marked "Source to be added". The sources page lists them all.

Educational draft · Subject review pending

An educational reference. It does not diagnose, recommend treatment, match people with therapists or offer crisis support.
